City of Rockville Community Development Block Grant Program
The 2022 CDBG Funding application is now open. Application instructions and the application can be downloaded here. The Community Development Block Grant Program is a federal grant for housing and community development projects that benefit low and moderate-income persons. Rockville is accepting applications for an anticipated $263,000 in federal CDBG funds it will receive in fall 2022. CDBG money can be used to provide grants to housing providers for housing and community development projects that benefit low- and moderate-income households or neighborhoods. Fiscal Year 2022 grants will fund projects during July 1, 2021-June 30, 2022.

County Rental Assistance 
Montgomery County will relaunch a COVID-19 Rental Assistance Program for tenants who meet eligibility requirements. The Housing Opportunities Commission of Montgomery County (HOC) will administer the program and accept applications and supporting documents from 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 18 through 2 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 31. Applications will be reviewed using a random selection method from the final pool of applications received by the deadline.

Maryland Nonprofit Recovery Initiative (NORI)
The State of Maryland will begin accepting applications for the second round of the Maryland Nonprofit Recovery Initiative (NORI) on Wednesday, August 12. The second round has EXPANDED ELIGIBILITY to include nonprofits of any size and with budgets over $5 million. Eligible nonprofit organizations can receive up to $50,000 in grant assistance for operational support. Click here for for more information, including eligibility requirements and application guidelines.

Athleta/Movement Foundation Grant Programs
Financial grants ranging from $5,000 to $30,000 to female, women of color entrepreneurs and organizations committed to making wellness and fitness more inclusive to female BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) communities.
Covid-19 Financial Relief Grants to fitness and wellness instructors. Up to $1,000 to teachers and instructors who are in need of tools and resources to bring their new digital business idea to life.
Movement-based grants to a variety of young female athletes, from economically disadvantaged backgrounds who require additional resources for mental, physical and emotional coaching.

Nonprofit, Interest-Free, Micro Bridge Loan Account (NIMBL)
This interest-free, micro bridge loan program and fund supports the operations of nonprofit entities. The program is administered by the Maryland Nonprofit Development Center and the Maryland Department of Commerce. The program provides short-term financing support to qualifying nonprofit entities between the award date of a government contract and the actual receipt date of those awarded funds. Click here for more info.

FIRM for Program Directors

FIRM for Program Directors
Specifically for Program Directors and department leaders.

FIRM for Program Directors is a multi-day workshop that provides program directors and department leaders with a deeper understanding of the financial processes, planning, and decision making that support strong program and organizational sustainability. Participants will learn about program level financial modeling, strategic budgeting, and financial reporting to build confidence and competence in making decisions that balance assets and outcomes (aka money and mission) for individual programs and the organization at large.

The program delivery will be a mix of LIVE and self-paced sessions over two weeks as follows …

  • LIVE Sessions will be delivered using Zoom and facilitated by our instructor. The first one will be an orientation and introduction for everyone. The following sessions will be specific Q&A sessions around the topics covered throughout the program in the self-passed modules
  • Self-Guided Modules – each module consists of 30-40 minutes of pre-recorded content along with linked planning tools and prompts – expect to spend about an hour with your team on each module.

Schedule:

  • September 11, 9-10am: LIVE Orientation: 30-40min (3 content modules also posted)
  • September 16, noon to 1pm: LIVE Q&A on Module 1: 45-60min
  • September 18, noon to 1pm: LIVE Q&A on Module 2: 45-60min
  • September 22, noon to 1pm: LIVE Q&A on Module 3: 60-90min

Arts Covid Relief Fund Town Hall – Application Launch

You are invited to register for another Arts Covid Relief Fund Town Hall to launch the application portal with the Arts and Humanities Council for arts & humanities organizations and creative professionals. We will be presenting the eligibility criteria, instructions on how to apply and launch of the application portal through Arts & Humanities Council’s FluidReview online grant platform.

FACES Grant, Due September 4
The FACES (Freeman Assists Communities with Extra Support) program is designed to find and fund the smaller, overlooked projects in our neighborhoods – and grants are limited to nonprofit organizations with operating budgets of $500,000 or less in Sussex County, DE, or $750,000 or less in Montgomery County, MD. Applications are due by September 4.

Next Gen Giving Circle (NGCC)
NGCC just announced the first grant funding opportunity, providing support for small, community-based organizations (incl. nonprofits, mutual aid groups, etc. with budgets up to $500K) supporting Greater Washington Region residents facing housing and/or food insecurity. This might include:

  • Prevention of evictions and foreclosures related to the economic distress of COVID-19, direct financial assistance for individuals/families, legal aid, and case management; or
  • Food and grocery assistance, community food pantries, school feeding programs, and grocery drop offs.

Applications for the grants (2-3 to be awarded) up to ~$10K are due Sept. 3, 2020, and more info can be found here.

Maryland COVID-19 Emergency Relief Grant Fund for 501(c)(6) Nonprofits
To support Maryland’s nonprofit 501(c)(6) organizations facing financial impacts from the novel coronavirus, the Maryland Department of Commerce in conjunction with the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) have established the Maryland COVID-19 Emergency Relief Grant Fund for 501(c)(6) Nonprofits with $1 million of federal CARES Act funding.

The grant will provide financing to organizations experiencing economic stresses in order to mitigate potential layoffs or organizational closures due to COVID-19. Eligible organizations may apply for funding up to $10,000. We will accept applications starting August 17 through August 24. Click here for more info.

Provider Relief Fund: New Applications Being Accepted
HHS recently announced that eligible providers can submit their application for funds from the Provider Relief Fund. Examples of eligible Medicare/Medicaid/CHIP/dental providers include:

  • Providers who did not receive an initial payment that totals approximately 2 percent of their annual patient revenue.
  • Providers who did receive an initial payment, but missed the June 3rd deadline to submit their revenue information.
  • Providers who were ineligible for prior General Distribution funds due to a change in ownership or because they did not have Medicare fee-for-service revenue in 2019.
  • Providers who previously received Phase 1 General Distribution payment(s), but rejected and returned the funds and are now interested in reapplying.

All eligible providers will only receive funding of up to 2 percent of their reported total revenue from patient care.  The deadline for applying for funds is August 28, 2020. For the latest information on the Provider Relief Fund Program, visit: hhs.gov/providerrelief.

Evidence for Action: Approaches to Advance Gender Equity From Around the Globe: 2020 Call for Proposals
The goal of this funding opportunity is to translate and adapt knowledge from around the world to the United States on approaches that can improve health or the determinants of health by improving gender equity. Applications due August 26.

Congressman Jamie Raskin: Discussed federal relief funding available to nonprofits

Jerome Fletcher, Assistant CAO @Montgomery County Government: Provided updates on the County’s reopening fund and other County news. Some takeaways on the PHEG funding:

  • There were 6755 grant applications, 2353 grants were awarded a total of $21 million. The average grant was $8,500. Nonprofit organizations received approximately 8% of the grants.

Vickie Buckland, COO, DHHS: Gave updates from the Department of Health & Human Services.

Heather Bruskin, Executive Director, Montgomery County Food Council and Jackie DeCarlo, CEO, Manna Food Center gave updates on food insecurity in the County. Click here to see Heather’s presentation. Here are some key takeaways:

  • the estimated number of county residents considered food insecure pre-Covid was 60,000 people. That number is now estimated to be over 100,000.
  • Montgomery County is setting up a food access helpline that residents can call and learn how to access food. Help will be available in multiple languages – the line can be accessed by calling 311. Information about housing resources will be added.

Nonprofit and Community Organizations Eviction Prevention Overview

In collaboration with the county departments of Health and Human Services and Housing and Community Affairs, The Renters Alliance of Montgomery County will host a webinar about developing County supports for renters who are behind on their rent. These supports are being offered in the context of COVID, with an estimated 13,000 renters in Montgomery County at risk of losing their homes for failure to pay rent.
