Wonders Child Care Name Change

Wonders Child Care officially changed its name to Wonders Early Learning & Extended Day. Wonders made the decision to include the words “early learning” and “extended day” in its name because they articulate the core of Wonders’ programming – supportive learning environments for children in its early childhood programs and before and after school programs.

Update on MD State Procurement

The Governor’s Commission to Modernize State Procurement hopes to hear from private sector businesses and nonprofits about experiences, issues, and suggestions for improving procurement by state agencies. Nonprofits are encouraged to make the Commission aware of issues and concerns they have experienced with state agency procurement policies or practices, putting them on the record either by forwarding those to the Commission through this web page, and/or by participating in one of the regional meetings. If you have experienced problems with state procurements, or share comments with the Commission, please also share that information withHenry Bogdan, Director of Public Policy at Maryland Nonprofits.

Pain Connection and US Pain Foundation Merger

Nonprofit Montgomery member Pain Connection and the US Pain Foundation will be merging together. Both organizations share the same mission to help people with chronic pain and their families. Gwenn Herman, Executive Director and Founder of Pain Connection will continue to oversee direct services, such as support groups and trainings in Arizona.

Montgomery County Benchmarking Laws

Nonprofits based in Montgomery County that own their buildings, may be subject to this benchmarking law, which requires the County and building owners to:

  • Benchmark the energy use of certain nonresidential buildings 50,000 square feet and greater in the county in ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager,
  • Have those data verified by a Recognized Data Verifier the first year and every three years thereafter, and
  • Report data to the County annually for public disclosure.

Congratulations Vivian Bass and The Armand Center for Conflict Resolution

Vivian Bass, CEO of The Jewish Foundation for Group Homes was honored with the Roscoe R. Nix Distinguished Community Leadership Award for making extraordinary contributions to our community at the very highest levels of excellence. The Montgomery Serves Award for Community Service was given to The Armand Center for Conflict Resolution for special volunteer accomplishments in 2015.
