New Program: Finances for the Flummoxed

2019-05-30T14:41:30-04:00May 28th, 2019|Events, Training Opportunities|

What is a budget really meant to communicate? What can those financial reports really tell me about my work and/or the organization?

Do you want to better understand what all those rows and columns of numbers mean and how you can use them, then join us for this session. An organization’s budget tells a much bigger story than just money in and money out. Those reports about activities, cash flow, and balances open doors to important information about how an organization conducts its business.

This session provides clarity on how these financial tools and the processes associated with them can serve you, even if you don’t think you are a numbers person.

When: June 13, 4-6pm
Where: The Writer’s Center, (4508 Walsh St., Bethesda)

Introducing: Funders Dialogue on Equity

2019-04-20T19:03:26-04:00April 15th, 2019|Events, Training Opportunities|

Important conversations about racial equity are happening throughout our region. Montgomery County is developing a Racial Equity and Social Justice Policy, and many regional funders are looking at their policies, processes and grantmaking with an equity lens. As leaders in social justice work, nonprofit organizations have an important role to play in advancing equity in our community.

This Funders Dialogue will be an opportunity for a dialogue with local funders about how racial equity is informing their work with nonprofits. How does it change the expectations of grantees? How can nonprofits be an active partner in this work?

Featured Speakers and Panelists:

  • Anna Hargrave, Executive Director, Community Foundation Montgomery County
  • Julian Haynes, Maryland Program Director, The Meyer Foundation
  • Suzan Jenkins, Chief Executive Officer, Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County
  • Nancy Navarro, President, Montgomery County Council
  • Crystal Townsend, President, Healthcare Initiative Foundation
  • Elijah Wheeler, Deputy Director/Social Justice Director, Collaboration Council

Don’t miss this opportunity to hear directly from funders how they prioritize equity in funding decisions and how you can align your work to be most meaningful, equitable, and impactful.

Crisis Communications with Armando Trull

2019-03-08T13:10:50-05:00March 10th, 2019|Events, Training Opportunities|

Every nonprofit needs a plan for a worst-case scenario. If the roof collapses, the CFO empties the bank account, or someone is injured while in your care, you need to be prepared with a plan. Nonprofits count on public trust and goodwill, both of which can be damaged by a poorly managed crisis.

This workshop will teach you what you need to know to develop a crisis communications plan, including:

  • understanding the news cycle
  • the role of social media
  • who speaks for the organization
  • preparing key messages and talking points
  • ongoing communication with important audiences
  • salvaging your reputation

Rockville Civic Center: 603 Edmonston Dr, Rockville, MD 20851
Space is limited. REGISTER HERE

Armando Trull is an EMMY and TELLY award-winning journalist. He was a senior reporter at WAMU 88.5 FM from 2011 to 2018, where he was lead reporter on the race/identity desk.
