The Montgomery County Food Council just released the 2022 Montgomery County Food and Beverage Guide. The Guide is available as a downloadable PDF and interactive searchable Guide.

The Guide features includes 18 farms, 17 bakeries/confectioneries, 16 prepared goods producers, 15 craft beverage producers, 4 non-alcoholic beverage producers, 3 meat producers, and 2 honey producers.

Join FIRM for Small/Emerging Nonprofits

Calling all small or emerging nonprofits! This FIRM is especially designed for nonprofits that are just starting up and/or are small (budgets under $750,000). The training introduces nonprofit leaders and board members to financial best practices for greater accountability and sustainability. Given the uncertainty and changes in funding in the last couple of years, it’s more important than ever to make sure your financial management is in shape.

This is a two-morning training for up to four staff and board members from each nonprofit, plus an individual consultation with a nonprofit financial expert.

When: Wednesday, March 16 & Friday, 18, 2022 from 9am-12:30pm
Where: On Zoom.
Cost: $25 for Nonprofit Montgomery member organizations. $275 for non-members.

You Train Them, JCA Pays Them: Senior Community Service Employment Program

JCA Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) matches low-income older adults age 55+ with community organizations and government agencies. SCSEP provides a salary for a senior worker, and the nonprofit provides the training. SCSEP has participants working in all types of nonprofits from handing out meals, to greeting clients, completing data entry to managing the office. They gain job skills; you gain extra help!

JCA is also accepting preliminary applications for the SCSEP program if you know an older adult over the age of 55, who is currently unemployed and living below 125% of the poverty line. For more information, visit JCA’s website or email Cathy.

Governor Hogan Declares 30-Day State of Emergency

Governor Larry Hogan just declared a 30-day state of emergency to take urgent short-term actions to combat the current COVID-19 surge and mobilized 1,000 members of the Maryland National Guard to assist state and local health officials with the ongoing pandemic response.

From MD Nonprofits: The covid surge has increased the demand for nonprofit services, and at the same time many organizations are struggling to manage covid infections and risks in their own staff.  How do the Governor’s recent actions help or hinder you from providing crucial support? Emergency Rental Assistance Program Application Portal to Close Dec. 31

Montgomery County’s Emergency Rental Assistance program’s (ERA) COVID Rent Relief application portal will close at 5 p.m. on Dec. 31. Applications submitted before the deadline will be reviewed and processed, but no additional applications will be received after that time.

An additional round of rent-relief funding, with an updated application process and eligibility criteria, will be announced in early 2022. Also ICYMI: Gaithersburg might extend rent protections through May 15 (Bethesda Magazine, December 10).

MCPS Looking for Nonprofit/Community Support: Gathering Opportunities for Students

Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) is looking to offer/pilot programs that provide activities for students to access on days off from school due to professional development days. The Partnerships Unit has been asked to see if any partners would be able to offer opportunities that students can access live, virtually, or asynchronously on days school is closed while MCPS teachers are working. The live opportunities could be school specific or school cluster/regional programs located around the county. We are open to discussing logistics including use of school space.

The Partnerships Unit is open to identify FREE Out-of-School Time programs/activities for this school year on the following days in 2022: Half Days on: 1/12, 3/21, 5/18 and Full Days on 1/24, 4/1, 5/2. Please reach out to the MCPS Partnerships Unit.

Survey of Nonprofit Organizations’ COVID Response for County’s After Action Report

The Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security asks that nonprofit organizations answer 4 additional follow-up questions to a survey that was distributed in August. The responses to these survey questions will provide the basis for an After Action Report that will highlight the critical work of Montgomery County’s nonprofit organizations during the COVID-19 response. The survey may be accessed at the following link.

The results of the report will be announced at Nonprofit Montgomery’s January 12 Meet Up.

Georgetown’s Nonprofit Management Executive Certificate Program

The Center for Public & Nonprofit Leadership is currently accepting applications for the Spring 2022 Nonprofit Management Executive Certificate Program-virtual and in-person. The Certificate Program is designed to strengthen the leadership and management capacity of nonprofit practitioners. The Center for Public and Nonprofit Leadership partners with LeaderBridge and a few other funders, to offer partial scholarships to participants.
