OLO Releases Report on School-to-Prison Pipeline in Montgomery County

The Office of Legislative Oversight (OLO) released the report on “The School-to-Prison Pipeline in Montgomery County.” The report includes recommendations for improvement, describes the increased risk of juvenile delinquency and criminal justice system involvement among children who have been suspended or expelled from school and the nature of the Pipeline in Montgomery County.

County State Delegation Supports Easing Student Loan Debt

The Montgomery County House Delegation to the Maryland General Assembly approved support of a bill to help ease the burden of student loan debts by allowing public refinancing of student loans. The legislation would allow the County to use tax-exempt bonds to refinance student loans for students who attended college in-state, regardless of the original lender.

Table for Ten for CEOs and Executive Directors

Dates have been announced for the spring Table for Ten: April 14, May 19, and June 16 from 8:30-10 am at the Nonprofit Village. These facilitated peer-to-peer sessions offer an opportunity for nonprofit executive directors to connect with peers around issues of importance to them and their organizations.

The sessions will be facilitated by Melissa Graves, who was recently appointed as Executive Director of Graceful Growing Together. Nonprofit Communications Professionals Peer Groups

The Mental Health Association (MHA) is organizing a peer group for nonprofit communications professionals for networking and idea sharing. Potential discussion topics include: social media strategies and tips for working with outside contractors and vendors. All nonprofit communications professionals are welcome to join. Facility Use Subsidy Program, Due April 1

CUPF subsidizes facility fees for classrooms, all-purpose rooms, and library meeting rooms for an activity by a Maryland-based, organizations/programs whose primary goal is to serve vulnerable youth or low-income people. These organizations also do not charge their participants or charge a minimal fee. Since January of this year, 10 applications have been processed, of which 8 were approved, with a combined savings of $11,110 to the awardees. CUPF strongly encourages all nonprofits who need school/government building space to apply by April 1.
