Montgomery County Charter Review Commission Public Hearing

The Montgomery County Charter Review Commission will hold a public hearing on October 18 at 7pm at the Council Office Building to receive feedback from residents about possible amendments to the Montgomery County Charter.

The Charter is the constitutional framework for County government. To sign up to speak at the public hearing, please call 240-777-7928 or emailcharterreview.commission@montgomerycountymd.gov.

County Council Passes $15 Minimum Wage

On November 7, the County Council unanimously approved Bill 28-17, Human Rights and Civil Liberties – County Minimum Wage – Amount – Annual Adjustment, that will increase the County’s minimum wage to $15 per hour. The bill must now goes to County Executive Ike Leggett for his signature.

Nonprofit organizations with 501(c)(3) designations and eligible service providers must raise wages to $15 per hour by July 1, 2023, unless they are considered a small employer.

All visitors must enter one of two designated, ADA-accessible public entrances: in front of the building near the second-floor cafeteria or the entrance adjacent to the first-floor auditorium near the parking garage adjacent to the building. No other entrances will be open to the public.

All visitors will pass through a metal detector. Hand-held items, including but not limited to bags, briefcases, cell phones, containers, laptop computers and purses, will pass through an X-ray machine.

If you are coming to the County Council Building for public hearings and meetings attended by many visitors, you may experience a line to enter and should plan to arrive a few minutes early.
