Montgomery County Community Organizations Active in Disaster Meeting

The Montgomery County COAD is a collaborative partnership between community stakeholders – voluntary, private and nonprofits that assists in organizing community efforts to provide needed services to community members that arise as the result of a disaster. The next meeting will be on June 13, 1-3pm at Public Safety Headquarters in Gaithersburg.

Public Input Wanted 4Business: Benchmarking to Be the Best for Business

County Executive Marc Elrich and Council Vice President Sidney Katz are embarking on a multi-pronged joint initiative: 4Business – Benchmarking to Be the Best for Business. The objective is to engage the local business community in a grassroots campaign to assist businesses to locate, grow and prosper in Montgomery County.

The schedule of information sessions:

  • May 6, 7 p.m. to 8:30 pm, East County Regional Services Center, 3300 Briggs Chaney Road, Silver Spring
  • May 13, 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Charles W. Gilchrist Immigrant Resource Center (Mid County service area), 11002 Veirs Mill Road, Wheaton

Montgomery County Trends – A Look at People, Housing and Jobs Since 1990
In case you missed it, the Montgomery County Planning Department recently released a report on population, housing, and employment trends. Click hereto access the report.

New Report on Montgomery County Women Released
The Montgomery County Commission for Women released its 2018 Status of Women report, “A Tale of Two Counties: The Status of Women in Montgomery County.” The report describes women’s experiences through quantitative data, both to measure observable progress and trends among women over the past decade and to identify specific obstacles, gaps, and disparities that continue to create challenges for women in the County.

County Health “Fair” – Register Your Event
The Department of Health and Human Services and Healthy Montgomery is planning a county-wide health fair to recognize National Public Health Week (April 1 -7). Rather than a traditional health fair in one location, organizers are asking neighborhood associations, health organizations, schools, businesses and other government agencies to host health-related events throughout the county. Click here to register your event.

Town Hall on Accessory Dwelling Units, January 19

County Councilmember Hans Riemer is hosting a town hall on accessory dwelling units (ADUs). In addition to addressing housing affordability more broadly in the County, ADUs can bring tremendous value to the homeowner and the renter. Community members are welcome to share feedback and get questions answered. The event is free, but registration is required.

County Executive’s FY20 Operating Budget Forums

County Executive Marc Elrich is holding five budget forums to seek input from residents about Fiscal Year 2020 Operating Budget priorities.

January 14, 7pm – BlackRock Center for the Arts, 12901 Town Commons Dr., Germantown
January 16, 7pm – Silver Spring Civic Building, One Veterans Place, Silver Spring
January 22, 7pm – Eastern Montgomery Regional Services Center, 3300 Briggs Chaney Road, Silver Spring
January 23, 7pm – Mid-County Recreation Center, 2004 Queensguard Rd., Silver Spring
February 4, 7pm – Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School, 4301 East West Hwy, Bethesda.

The County Executive will announce his recommended FY20 Operating Budget on March 15 and the County Council approves the operating budget at the end of May.
