The D.C. Bar Pro Bono Center is holding a free legal clinic for nonprofits to provide one-on-one legal review of their insurance policies. At the clinic, nonprofits will be able to sit down and talk with volunteer attorneys one-on-one and will complete a form asking about your organization’s insurance coverages. It will take place on December 8, 2017 from 9-11:30am. at Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton LLP, 607 14th Street, NW. Registration is required: contact Lauren Paley.
Cindy Peña, local media expert is teaching a class on how to reach the media and get coverage. Attendees will learn how to write a media advisory or press release, identify media and create a press lists, and much more. The class will be on November 29 from 10am to noon at Montgomery Community Media (7529 Standish Place, Rockville).
The 7th Annual Montgomery County Council Town Hall Meeting for Students is on November 29 at 7pm at the Council Office Building. The Councilmembers want to gather thoughts and feedback from our County’s younger residents. A pre-meeting reception will begin at 6pm in the building’s second-floor cafeteria. At the reception, students will have a chance to meet with Councilmembers and talk with them in an informal setting.

Nonprofit Montgomery, Leadership Montgomery, and Capacity Partners are partnering on a new resource to strengthen nonprofit boards of directors. BoardMatch Montgomery will recruit and train effective and engaged candidates to serve on the boards Montgomery County nonprofits.
Nonprofits start the process by attending a training on effective board practices. The two hour session to be held on December 6 will highlight best practices and increase board effectiveness and engagement. The training will be offered by Capacity Partners. After the training nonprofits can apply to be matched with board-ready local leaders through a personalized matching process. The program is available to all Nonprofit Montgomery members.

Strong leaders make for strong organizations. While County nonprofit organizations are seeking great leaders to serve on their boards of directors, local leaders are eager to lend their expertise to benefit our community. Leadership Montgomery and Nonprofit Montgomery are pleased to team up to launchBoardMatch Montgomery, a program that will prepare and match leaders for service on nonprofit boards.
We will kick off our program this fall with a pair of trainings developed by Capacity Partners–one for potential board candidates and one for nonprofits seeking new board members. Participants in these trainings will be eligible to participate in a high-touch matching process that will jumpstart the relationship between existing boards and board candidates.
