The FY24 Community Grants review and awarding process is complete with Notification Letters sent to all applicants. The Office of Grants Management (OGM) received over 310 applications with the value of requests totaling nearly $50 million with less than six million available for awards; an 8.5 to one ratio of requests received to funds available. The full list of award winners in pdf format may be downloaded here.

Montgomery County and the Housing Opportunities Commission of Montgomery County (HOC) have launched the Nonprofit Preservation Fund (NPF) to preserve affordable housing. The NPF will be funded with $50 million by Fiscal Year 2025 to provide low-interest interim loans to support nonprofit developers and HOC in acquiring and preserving naturally occurring affordable housing (NOAH).

IRA Direct Pay Webinar for Maryland Tax Exempt Entities
The Inflation Reduction Act is the largest investment in clean energy in U.S. history. Most of the investment comes through tax incentives. Under a novel provision known as “direct pay” or “elective pay”, tax exempt entities can benefit from these tax incentives.

Morris and Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation invites applications from nonprofits in the D.C. area. 
The foundation invites applications for its grants program, through which it aims to improve the lives of D.C.-area residents, with an emphasis on creating a more equitable region. Grants are awarded in five program areas: arts and humanities, community services, education, environment, and health and wellness. The portal opens on June 1, 2024, for the July 1, 2024 deadline.

NONPROFIT MONTGOMERY TO HOST PAUL MONTEIRO, SECRETARY OF THE DEPARTMENT OF SERVICE AND CIVIC INNOVATION, AND KEY STAKEHOLDERS NEXT WEEK

Rockville, MD – Nonprofit Montgomery will be hosting a listening session for Maryland’s Secretary of the Department of Service and Civic Innovation, Paul Monteiro. Monteiro will have the opportunity to hear from nonprofit leaders and students from the John F. Kennedy High School Leadership Training Institute who supported the SERVE ACT legislation, Governor Moore’s “service year option,” earlier this year.

The students and nonprofit leaders representing SGAP Leaders, the Student Conservation Association, Inc. National Capital Region, Service Year Alliance, and the Association for Student Conduct Administration will engage in a dialogue and provide recommendations regarding the implementation of Maryland’s service year program.

The Department of Service and Civic Innovation plans to launch the first cohort of this program this fall with at least 200 participants, expanding to 2,000 over the next four years. Participants will be paid $15/hour during their service job training and mentorship.

FNS intends to make available in fiscal year (FY) 2022 approximately $3 million to non-profit organizations with large networks of community colleges or consortia of community colleges with experience providing workforce development services to low-income and low-skilled individuals, including SNAP participants. Grant funds will be used to support new organizational capacity to provide network or consortia members training and other technical assistance so that network or consortia members may become third-party SNAP E&T providers. Click here for more information.
