MCPS Looking for Nonprofit/Community Support: Gathering Opportunities for Students

2021-12-17T21:32:47-05:00December 17th, 2021|MoCo Government News, Nonprofit Resources|

Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) is looking to offer/pilot programs that provide activities for students to access on days off from school due to professional development days. The Partnerships Unit has been asked to see if any partners would be able to offer opportunities that students can access live, virtually, or asynchronously on days school is closed while MCPS teachers are working. The live opportunities could be school specific or school cluster/regional programs located around the county. We are open to discussing logistics including use of school space.

The Partnerships Unit is open to identify FREE Out-of-School Time programs/activities for this school year on the following days in 2022: Half Days on: 1/12, 3/21, 5/18 and Full Days on 1/24, 4/1, 5/2. Please reach out to the MCPS Partnerships Unit.

Pandemic Impact on Nonprofits in Maryland
MD Nonprofits’ final COVID-19 and Racial Equity Survey is now available. Nonprofit Montgomery partnered with MD Nonprofits to collect this data in 2020, and Montgomery County tied with Baltimore for the county with the highest number of respondents. The data highlights the impact of covid on the nonprofit sector and the disproportionate impact on smaller nonprofits and nonprofits led by people of color.

Sign on to Letter to Governor Hogan
MD Nonprofits is calling on the state to devote at least $1 billion of the $4 billion projected budget state surplus to services for families and communities affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and its economic effects. That sign-on letter is here. Nonprofit Montgomery has signed on, as have over 215 other organizations. We encourage all Maryland nonprofits to sign on to the letter.

Nonprofit ERTC Relief
The National Council of Nonprofits is leading the action to Restore the ERTC, which was eliminated for the fourth quarter of 2021, and is helping nonprofits that reduced their payments to the IRS in anticipation of these credits avoid having to pay back amounts owed due to the repeal. Click here for more information and  to learn how to get involved. If you were directly affected by the repeal, please reach out to Henry Bogdan, Maryland Nonprofits, who is collecting this information for an advocacy effort.

If you host events, “hybrid” events are becoming more and more common. But in your organization, what would it mean? Join Linda Howard as she takes you through what it means to host a “hybrid” event, identify some strategies for deciding when and how to evolve from fully virtual to hybrid to fully in-person events, and explore how to plan appropriately for various approaches.

Participants will:
• Explore a variety of definitions for what “hybrid” event might mean to you
• Examine your organization’s objectives when deciding between virtual, hybrid, and in-person workshop and event formats
• Identify strategies for planning and preparing for in-person vs hybrid events

Linda Howard, Howard Consulting LLC, helps association and nonprofit leaders design virtual meetings and events that are interactive and engaging so that participants feel more connected to the mission of the organization.
