  • Bytes Foundation: low to no cost technology and related services to nonprofits
  • Maryland Office of Statewide Broadband Digital Equity Programs: submission deadline of March 31
    • Connected Communities Grant Program: designed to assist local community based organizations, non-profits, and anchor institutions in creating Gap Networks and Community Networks. These networks are designed to address the affordability challenge many low to moderate income household’s face in subscribing to the internet.
    • Digital Inclusion Grant Program: provides funding to local jurisdictions, 501(c) entities, and community based anchor institutions to further the state’s digital inclusion efforts. This grant opportunity will fund projects directed around digital inclusion planning and implementation.

Nonprofit Montgomery Advocacy Update

Recently Franca Brilliant, Nonprofit Montgomery’s Advocacy & Development Director, submitted testimony in support of Senate Bill 632: Maryland Health Benefit Exchange-Small Business and Nonprofit Health Insurance Subsidies Program. If passed, this bill would support nonprofits as well as small businesses and their employees, and will improve health equity in Maryland.

Nonprofit Montgomery’s MORE Training helps nonprofits learn about evaluation, and offers a deep dive into measuring impact and gauging program effectiveness.

MORE will strengthen your organization’s capacity to measure results by: understanding key evaluation terminology; assessing your organization’s capacity for evaluation; identifying external data and resources to strengthen evaluation efforts; and more.

MORE is a hands-on approach for nonprofits who are new to evaluation or who need to improve their evaluation practices. The program provides a framework for understanding evaluation and includes tools, individual consultation and time to plan as a team.

Who should participate: Nonprofit organizations located in or serving the residents of Montgomery County. Nonprofits participate in MORE as a team of up to four senior leaders.
When: March 14, 21, 28, April 4, 11, all 10:30am-noon and consultations in April/May
Cost: $25 for Nonprofit Montgomery members (4 people) and $525 for non-members.

Nonprofit Montgomery is seeking a visionary, entrepreneurial leader to lead Montgomery Moving Forward (MMF), a cross sector community change initiative in Montgomery County, MD. This is an exciting opportunity to identify key issues that require collective action and develop community change strategies.

In partnership with a cross-sector Leadership Group, the MMF Director supports community change initiatives using the principles of collective impact: gathering data and community input and developing a common agenda of system change strategies, educating stakeholders through continuous communication, recommending coordinating activities, evaluating results and supporting backbone infrastructure for the effort. The MMF Director will:

  • Provide visionary leadership to the collective impact effort.
  • Facilitate the work of a cross sector Leadership Group (LG) of committed community leaders.
  • Oversee the selection of community priorities on which to focus and the research/problem analysis and strategy development to address the issue.
  • Seek input on priorities for action from all parts of the community and from those most affected by the issue.
  • Develop policy priorities and support the Leadership Group and subcommittees in advocacy work with state and local elected officials around key issue priorities.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders and community partners.
  • Plan and implement learning opportunities and symposia to educate the community including elected officials and community stakeholders on critical issues related to the current issue.
  • Raise funds to support the effort.
  • Oversee the work of a small dedicated team of MMF staff.
  • The position will manage, engage, and leverage the LG who provide oversight of the MMF efforts. Finally, this position will coordinate program and development strategy and activities with the Co-chairs of the MMF LG.

Reporting Relationships:

  • The MMF Director reports to the Executive Director of Nonprofit Montgomery (NM).
  • The LG and the MMF Co-chairs oversee and advise the MMF Director on strategy, process and implementation of the collective impact goals.
  • The MMF Director is responsible for supervising the work of the staff team.

 Qualifications

  • At least 10 years of relevant work experience, including at least 3 years managing teams in a fast-paced and high-growth nonprofit, social enterprise, start-up environment, advocacy entity or community organizing entity.
  • At least five years of fundraising experience and demonstrated success in cultivating donor relationships.
  • Understanding of racial equity and demonstrated ability to promote equity in all aspects of the work.
  • The executive presence to inspire confidence and passion in both internal and external audiences.
  • Advanced strategy and planning skills, including an ability to think strategically on both organizational and systemic levels over multi-year horizons.
  • Strong data acumen and ability to oversee complex shared-measurement systems.
  • Strong facilitation and presentation skills before multiple types of audiences.
  • Existing relationships with, or ability to build relationships with, a cross-sectoral range of stakeholders in the local or regional area, including senior executives and elected leaders.
  • A track record of leading, inspiring, and developing high-performance teams.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build authentic relationships with a diverse set of high-profile stakeholders.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and ability to thrive in a fluid, entrepreneurial environment; willingness to “roll up one’s sleeves” and extend beyond formal responsibilities based on the needs of the work.

Desired Qualifications: Advanced degree in business, education, social work, policy, or related field. Familiarity with the local area and/or focus of the initiative

Compensation: Salary range:  $92,000-$96,000 per year.

Benefits include health, dental, and life insurance; paid vacation; sick time and paid holidays; and the opportunity to participate in a Simple IRA plan with a 3% employer match. Flexible and entrepreneurial workplace based in Rockville, MD.
