Skilled workers and good jobs are essential to our community’s future.

Montgomery Moving Forward (MMF) was created by Nonprofit Montgomery in June 2013 following the release of Beyond Charity: Nonprofit Business in Montgomery County a report describing the economic impact of the county’s nonprofit sector – and simultaneous conversations about the need to approach our community’s problems differently.

MMF began its work by focusing on workforce development, which led to our Call to Action: Fueling our Future with Skilled Workers and Good Jobs, issued in 2014. The Call to Action was embraced by more than 100 leaders from across sectors.

In October 2015, Montgomery County Executive Leggett announced an initiative to overhaul workforce development in the county, and the County Council approved legislation designating WorkSource Montgomery, Inc. as the County’s first single, readily identifiable structure to lead, elevate and coordinate a comprehensive system of workforce development.

Our focus on workforce development demonstrated that MMF’s Collective Impact model is an effective strategy for pushing for systems change in the community, and we continue to monitor progress toward the goals outlined in the Call to Action.

Workforce Development is closely related to MMF’s current focus, Early Care and Education, and both issues are a good fit for MMF’s Collective Impact approach. To learn more, visit About MMF.
